Schoolhouse Review: A+ Tutorsoft
A+ Tutorsoft, Inc. is an interactive, multimedia, multi-sensory math program for grades 1-6, plus Pre-Algebra and Algebra I. A+ Tutorsoft offers both online and CD software math curriculum. For this review, I received the A+ Interactive Math 4th Grade CD Software, Premium Edition.
Don't let the website overwhelm you like it did me. Once you've spent a little time there, you will begin to see all that this program has to offer. Things like free math placement tests, free pdf downloads of grade specific worksheet packs, a free one month online subscription, just to name a few.
Here is a testimonial from their website:
"A+ Tutorsoft happens to be one of those exceptional and outstanding visual math programs. What initially attracted my visual non-math self to this program was not just the visuals but how many features you get with this program."
"Give me all the help I want with math and present it to me in a variety of ways. A+ Tutorsoft gets rave reviews from me on that part. You don't get just one way to tackle this program but you can mix and match these features depending on your needs. It is like having both a student curriculum and teacher's guide rolled into one program."

There are three options for A+ Interactive Math:
~~~ an online subscription
~~~ a physical CD standard edition
~~~ a physical CD premium edition
A+ Interactive Math is a full math curriculum. My 11 year old daughter is using this program.
It includes multimedia lessons which are great. I didn't have to sit with her and be the teacher, everything is already there. I can easily monitor her progress. It has a lesson plan which is very helpful, an easy way to keep up with things.
The Interactive Q & A section comes with each lesson and is where she was able to respond with an answer to what she was learning. This section has several multiple choice questions. She said she really enjoyed this. It would give her immediate feedback on her answers. She had an option at the end of this section to print a certificate.
The curriculum book is a math textbook that can accompany each lesson. There is also a worksheet and exam that can printed out to complete. It also has an answer and solution section.
Over all, my daughter thought the program was good. She is using it as a supplement with her other math program. I asked her if A+ Interactive Math would be something she would like to continue using and her response was "Yes". I think this is something I will be able to pass down to my younger bugs since I chose to review the CD software.
The Premium 4th Grade CD Edition can be purchased for $124.99 and the program works for up to 5 children. The standard edition is available for $99.99.
The online version is $19.95 a month, $49.99 quarterly and $124.99 yearly.
As an added bonus, A+ Tutorsoft, Inc. is offering a 50% off discount through the end of March.
Math 911 Review
Math! What can I say. It is probably our least favorite subject around here. We are very hands-on , so when MATH 911 was offered, I thought it would be a change from textbook math.
For the purpose of this review, we were given a download with no expiration date. The version downloaded from the website is the standard version. We were given the option to upgrade to the Premier Version which also gives you access to additional math courses: Intermediate Algebra, Statistics, Trigonometry, College Algebra and Pre-Calculus.
From the Website:
Topics are arranged by chapter, section and levels. Within each level are all the types of problems that identify the concepts that your student must know in order to be successful in Algebra including Graphs and Word Problems.
The cost is $49.95 for the complete Math911 program. There is also a free trial of introductory algebra available as a back-to-school special.
When we first started using Math 911, I was a bit skeptic. After learning how to use the program, I found it to be a really good program. Downloading the software was easy. Once it is downloaded, you immediately begin with Into Algebra. I was very glad that this program started with this because the oldest bug is just now beginning with Pre-Algebra. I feel we both are benefiting from this program. I needed a refresher course and she is just beginning. Starting with the Introductory Algebra helped tremendously because I needed help remembering how to do Integers. We are moving slowly with the program but I feel that little by little we are learning and retaining much.
Math Made Easy Review
As a Schoolhouse review crew member, I had the opportunity to review Multiplication Teaching and Learning Made Easy from MATH MADE EASY. It was written by Glenda Brown James for the purpose of teaching you child to master their multiplication facts in just six short weeks. The elimination of early learning of 0's, 1's, 10's and 11's narrows the math facts down to only 36 facts to be learned. These facts are divided into 6 weeks of study, introducing six facts per week.
The book is a spiral-bound workbook that consist of three different parts: worksheets, games and flashcards. There are three lesson plans in the front of the book, a multiplication pre-test and a multiplication post-test. The weekly guide sheet lists the six facts by week.
There are five worksheets to be completed per week, one for each day. There are also multiplication reviews for each week. Through this review, we learned that this book is reproductible for the use within the immediate family. A big plus for large families!
Also included are three games that are to be used to reinforce the facts your child/children are learning. Two of the three games recommend laminating certain parts. I don't have a laminating machine but I have a friend who suggested using clear contact paper. It worked like a charm! AND, there are perforated fact cards labeled by the week in the back. I also used the contact paper on these.
How we used the product and our thoughts:
I had my 11 year old bug use this every day, the way it is recommended and the first thing she said to me was, "Mom, this is by far the best math book ever to learn my facts with." I was soooo excited and relieved. It is definitely a new way to learn and teach multiplication....an old subject. She has been enjoying and eager to see what each day holds. The worksheets are very fun and at the same time, educational. I highly recommend this product for learning your multiplication facts. She is learning her facts and enjoying it at the same time. JOY!
Pricing and other products:
The Homeschool Multiplication Package can be purchased for $24.95.
They also have a Homeschool Addition Package for $24.95. I will definitely purchase this for my upcoming Preschool and Kindergarten bugs.
No-Nonsense Algebra: A Schoolhouse Review
We received a copy of No-Nonsense Algebra fromMath Essentials. My 14 year old bug is hopefully ready to tackle some algebra!
No-Nonsense Algebra begins with simple algebraic equations. It is a complete algebra course. Each lesson includes an introduction, exercises, examples and reviews. There is also online teaching for each lesson that is included free with the book purchase. In the back of the book is a website: www.nononsensealgebra.com. There is a sticker on the inside back cover of the book. You register at the website using the special code and this is how you get the free online video lessons.
The table of contents include:
Chapter 1 - Necessary Tools for Algebra
Chapter 2 - Solving Equations
Chapter 3 - Graphing and Analyzing Linear Equations
Chapter 4 - Solving and Graphing Inequalities
Chapter 5 - Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
Chapter 6 - Polynomials
Chapter 7 - Rational Expressive (Algebraic Fractions)
Chapter 8 - Radical Expressions and Geometry
Chapter 9 - Quadratic Equations
Chapter10 - Algebra Word Problems
My Thoughts:
I think this is a great product for a great price. My 14 year old bug is and will enjoy using No-Nonsense Algebra. She likes that the lessons are short and each one of the lessons focuses on one concept with review.
In addition to the No-Nonsense Algebra program, Math Essentials gave each of us crew members an additional Master Essential Math Skills Book. I received the Geometry book. This is a supplement to be used with a full curriculum. It is a good book for more practice and review of Geometry.
The Geometry supplement retails for $11.95.
Professor B Math (Schoolhouse Review Crew)
As part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew, I received online access to Professor B Math. It has three different levels:
~~LEVEL I - Pre K through 2nd grade and remediation of older learners. Introduction to Addition/Subtraction Facts - Counting to One Hundred - Lower Addition and Subtraction - Place Value - Fractional Parts and Older - Time - Money
~~LEVEL II - 3rd grade through 5th grade and remediation of older learners. Multiplication/Division Facts and Problem Solving - Introduction to Fractions - Fractional Equivalence - Addition and Subtraction Fractions.
~~LEVEL III - 6th grade through 8th grade and remediation of older learners. Multiplication/Division of Fractions - Decimals - Percents.
I have children of all different ages so we were able to use all three levels. There are 3 grades of math in each level. It will take approximately 10 months to complete each level depending on how long you work everyday. We usually work about 30 minutes a day on a lesson.
Professor B is a teaching program. Professor B has no sound. It tells you what to say, when to say it. The teacher (parent) reads it all out loud. The program is designed for the teacher (parent) to work along side the student. At the beginning of every lesson, you will go to the Table of Contents to get started, select what you want the student to study and go straight to that section. For example, there is no need to start with single digit subtraction if you are working on multiple digit subtraction.
Professor B is an online program. There is nothing to download or install on your computer. Any one level is $20 a month. Two levels at the same time is an additional $15. All three at the same time adds another $10 a month.
WHAT I THINK.......Overall, we enjoyed the program. I think it might be a little pricey for homeschool families to use, especially if you have multiple children. Although it might be a bit pricey, if you have a child or children struggling with something, I would highly recommend it. It is a fun math program and I know from experience, if something is fun, learning is fun!
Please visit the Schoolhouse Review Crew blog to read more reviews on Professor B.
Math Lessons for a Living Education
I have been homeschooling for almost seven years now. When we first started homeschooling, I knew nothing. I thought I would need to purchase really expensive curriculum and alot of it to be successful. I thought the textbook approach was the way to go. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against it, it just doesn't work for us. After almost seven years, I decided to school the bugs using the Charlotte Mason Style. We jumped into it this year and never looked back.
One of the books I am using with my nine year old son is a book entitled, "Math Lessons for a Living Education" by Angela O'Dell and Kyrsten Carlson. We are currently doing book 2. My son loves this book. It is such a fun book that when I am reading the little story each day to him, all of the bugs stop what they are doing and listen in. We all enjoy this book.
FROM THE AUTHOR:
Follow along with Charlie, Charlotte and new baby sister, Ella, as they learn about the wonderful world around them. In this volume, the twins discover the value of money, higher place value, adding and subtracting larger numbers, fractions, time, measurements and much more. Throughout the book, they discover the joy of giving and praying for those less fortunate than themselves. Seasons of the year, nature tidbits and exciting hands-on projects will invite children to dive in and enjoy learning. Childhood is so short and only comes once - why not enjoy the trip?
Math Lessons for a Living Education is available through Queen Homeschool Supplies for $39.95. They also have Book 1 and Book 3 available. This is a 326 page consumable, spiral-bound book that lays flat so that a right or left handed student can use it. It also comes complete with cut-out manipulatives. Everything you need to teach a complete year of math. 36 weeks worth of lessons!
I highly recommend this book. I have quite a few friends that were wanting to learn a little about this book. All opinions are my own and this review was completely done to help some friends!
God Bless!
