Living Virtuously: A Wife's Complete Guide To Keeping Her Heart & Home and Giveaway

Many years ago my friend shared some wonderful books and DVD's with me and one of the DVD's was of Erin Harrison and her family sharing on homesteading. We have always enjoyed watching them. When I saw her book Living Virtuously: A Wife's Complete Guide To Keeping Her Heart & Home, I knew it was something I would love reading.

This book takes you through Proverbs 31 in the bible among many other scripture. This is absolutely a wonderful book. I have really enjoyed reading it. There is so much to learn from this book. Any woman wanting to bless her family and herself will greatly benefit from the wonderful read. Many a woman would be blessed by this book by learning things taught in this book. It encouraged me to do better and become a better wife and mother.

This book will help you in so many aspects of your life. As a homesteading and homeschooling mom, I understand how hard it is to balance life! This book, for me, was a complete guide to learn to do better and how to do it. On the back of her book it lists.....

In the complete guide you will learn how to....

~Face adversity and find joy in your circumstances.
~Clean and organize your home as a haven of rest.
~Be frugal and plan meals.
~Arrange your life so you have more time.
~Teach your children a good work ethic while embracing motherhood.
~Control words and actions.
~Keep your heart pure.
~Honor your husband.
~Find balance in all areas.
~LIVE VIRTUOUSLY!

It is through her words and quoted scripture that I feel I can do better. When I read this, it made me smile. If you need encouragement and feel like you are failing at keeping your home, this book is for you. Erin will be a true inspiration to you.

Roma Downey's Little Angels Prayers for Every Day Giveaway!

My family and I had the opportunity to take a look at a new book by Roma Downey entitled "ROMA DOWNEY'S LITTLE ANGELS PRAYERS FOR EVERY DAY.

This book features more than 50 rhyming prayers. The book has prayers for morning, prayers of praise, prayers of thanks, prayers for mealtimes, prayers for others, prayers for help, prayers for guidance, prayers for forgiveness, prayers of comfort and prayers for bedtime.
In this book, twins Alex and Zoe, go about their days, along with little angels, their guardians, teachers and companions. From waking in the morning to going to sleep at night, from thanking God for a meal to praying for His comfort when afraid, these little prayers help little ones to see that any moment, no matter what you are going through, is a good time to talk to God. It is the perfect way to teach children about prayer and the ways God cares for us each day. There are even bible verses scattered throughout this little book as well.

Here are a few sample prayers taken from this wonderful little book:

     Prayers for Morning.......

          Dear Lord,
          When the darkness goes away
and the daylight shines so bright,
I'll thank you for another day
          and for another night.
          Amen!

     Prayers for Mealtimes.......

          Dear Jesus,
          Thank you for this day.
          Thank you for our meals.
          Thank you for the way
          your glory makes us feel!
          Amen!

     Prayers for Bedtime.......

          Dear God,
It's almost time for me to sleep,
and now it's time to pray.
Thank you, God, for all you do,
          and for this happy day.
          Amen!

Those are just a few of our favorites, The first day we received this book, I read each and every prayer to my 3 and 5 year old bugs while they were taking a bath. They listened so well to each and every prayer and wanted to read them over and over again.

I highly recommend this book. It has been such a blessing to us and gives the bugs such wonderful little prayers to pray each and every day!

Veggie Tales: The Little House That Stood Giveaway!

We love Veggie Tales around here. When I found out we would be reviewing this new movie, I immediately told the bugs. Boy were they excited!

The Little House That Stood DVD
The Little House That Stood: A Parable of the Wise & Foolish Builders. A Lesson in Making Good Choices.

This movie is about when the three little pigs roll into Cabbageville looking to build some new houses. They meet one builder with a plan and two more that didn't have a clue. One is Larry who builds his out of hay and Mr. Lunt with bricks, these two didn't have a clue. But Bob, he builds his houses on a firm foundation, following the wise plans from the Master Builders' Handbook.

Do the little piggies make the right choices when it comes to building their houses - and their lives - on solid ground?  Find out in this parable that shows kids when they follow God's blue prints then can stand when the storms come.

We enjoyed downloading a couple of coloring sheets from here and making an afternoon of coloring and watching this great movie.

Here are a few ways to check out this amazing movie:

I highly recommend this DVD. We love veggie tales and love how they use bible stories to teach our kids some great lessons about God. I love how these DVD's give scripture to read to your children.

Here is one of the many they recommend you reading with your children:

Luke 6: 47-48 (Taken from the KJV)
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like.

He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

If you would like a chance to win a copy of this Veggie Tales, all you need to do is leave me a comment below letting me know your favorite Veggie Tales DVD or silly song. This giveaway will end Saturday, March 16th at noon. I will pick a winner using random.org. I will need you to leave me contact information in case you are the winner.

Veggie Tales has been a huge blessing to our family. They are filled with so much great information. This is a great way to learn about the bible and all the ways to grow closer to our Lord Jesus Christ.

(From the Publisher)

My Thoughts:

We watched this movie for our family movie night. This movie is rated PG because of serious issues like divorce and rebellion. It is not a light-hearted movie. It also covers issues like forgiveness and reconciliation. We enjoyed this movie although the topic of divorce and all the fighting and arguing that goes along with divorce may be a little much for younger children. I did have my 4 year old and 2 year old watching and it seemed to me that they really didn't understand what was happening  as far as the divorce issue. All in all, we did enjoy the movie. It has a happy ending and also reminds us to have faith in God and everything in our lives will fall into place. You can visit this link to see the trailer.

Rules for the Giveaway:

1. Follow my blog and leave a comment letting me know.

2. Watch the trailer and  tell me what you think for a second entry.

Please remember to leave me a way of getting in touch with you in case you win and tell some of your friends. They might enjoy getting free movies as I do. Giveaway ends 3/24/2012.

God Bless!
Dana

DVD Review: A Mile in His Shoes

I wanted to review this movie because as a family with no cable, we want to watch faith-based, family-oriented movies. There are some really good actors in this movie. If you or someone you know has a special person in your life with Asperger's syndrome or autism, you will definitely want to see this movie. Our family sat down and watched this film together.

Knowing it was based on a true story made it even more special to watch. We really enjoy true stories. It is an inspirational film that will strengthen your faith and give you hope and determination.

The bugs really enjoyed this fun film.
